Welcome to a webinar on the experience of living with Down Syndrome in Ukraine and the impact of the ongoing conflict on this community. The evening will feature the following presenters:
- Oksana Kryvonogova, PhD, psychologist, and vice-president of the Ukrainian Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Association, will discuss early childhood intervention and the general life situation for families with disabilities in Ukraine. She will cover the available support systems, societal perceptions of people with Down Syndrome, and changes in adoption practices.
- Presentations from two mothers:
– Maria Gritsk, the mother of 2-year-old Nazar, will share her experience of raising a child with Down Syndrome in Ukraine.
– Lyubov Harunzhak, the mother of 37-year-old Alexander with Down Syndrome, will also discuss her experiences. - Christina Haulrich Klausen, the editor of the Norwegian book ”Down syndrom de første årene” and one of the initiators of the ongoing Norwegian crowdfunding campaign, will give a brief presentation about the project. This campaign aims to raise funds to translate and adapt the book into Ukrainian to provide it free of charge to new parents of babies with Down Syndrome in Ukraine.
